Readability Statistics
Want to know how many characters or words are in your document? Want to find out how many sentences your document has? Are you interested in knowing how easy it is to read your document? Do you want to know if a person with an 7th grade education can comprehend it?
Readability Statistics
These statistics will appear after performing a spelling and grammar check if you follow these steps:
- Open Microsoft Word
- Click Tools, choose Options
- Choose the Spelling & Grammar tab
- Check “show readability statistics”
- Click OK
When Word finishes checking your spelling and your grammar, it will display information about the reading level of the document, based on the Flesch-Kincaid scoring system.*
*Flesch-Kincaid scores are based on the average number of syllables per word and words per sentence. The Grade Level score rates text based on U.S. school grades (i.e. a score of 7.0 would mean a 7th grader should be able to comprehend the text). The Reading Ease score is based on a 100 point scale; the higher the score, the easier it is to comprehend.
