Add a Watermark!

Picture of a document with "Happy Thanksgiving" watermarkA watermark is text or a picture in the background of a document, behind the regular text, that appears on every page.

For example, you can place the word DRAFT on each page of a document that is not ready to be published, “Happy Holidays” for your annual letter to family and friends, even your favorite picture.

When you are ready to place text or a picture in the background of a document:

  1. From the Format menu, choose Background, Printed Watermark.
  2. Select either Picture watermark or Text watermark from the dialog box.
For Picture watermark, click Select Picture, and then choose the picture you would like to use. Decide whether you want to scale the picture or wash it out (make it pale).
For Text watermark, you have a choice of options in the Text drop-down list, or type your own text in the box. Now you can pick your font, size, and color for the watermark. Don’t forget to select either Diagonal or Horizontal, and then click OK.

Your watermark picture or text will appear on the background of each page.

If you need to move the background text or picture:

  1. From the View menu, choose Header and Footer.
  2. Drag the text or picture elsewhere on the page.
  3. When you're finished, click the Close button on the Header and Footer toolbar.
